Vacation time!


My beach hut, 'island-basic style', right off the beach at Palolem, Goa. Never mind the smell of a dead rat somewhere next to my bed, the ocean was outside the door, and an early morning swim or evening walk on the beach was wonderful ...
And a night out at 'The Titanic Bar' on the beach, where Goanese port was about $2 per glass.

Festivities en route while cycling to Karnataka on a scorching day. What else but to have a few salty lemon sodas and dance with the local dieties ...

What do to with a free month or two in the trekking off season? This winter I did some cycle touring (with a bit of time on the beach and feasting on seafood as well) in Goa and South India with Joel, another Project Himalaya guide. It was amazing to spend time on the coast again, and the colors, tastes and smells of southern India were incredible ...
