Manaslu is a remote region of the Nepal, Himalaya, very diverse culturally and scenically and relatively un-trekked. The upper region is ethnically Tibetan, trading as they have for centuries with Tibet. High snow-peaks, forests, terraced fields, timeless villages and high grazing pastures make this one of the most spectacular treks in Nepal.

Nar Phu Trek

The Nar Phu region is a remote, newly openned region of upper Manang in Nepal. The inhabitants are ethnically Tibetan but speak distinct dialects. Life in Nar & Phu villages continues as it has for centuries, with trade and herding being their means of support.
And the scenery getting up there, spectacular!

Our sponsored Sherpa girls' little sisters have become good friends as well.
The photo was taken in Monjo in the Everest region of Nepal, returning from last November's High Passes trek. Another of the same coming April & November, run by Kim & Lhakhpa; an amazing trek in a very special part of the Himalaya.

Vacation time!

My beach hut, 'island-basic style', right off the beach at Palolem, Goa. Never mind the smell of a dead rat somewhere next to my bed, the ocean was outside the door, and an early morning swim or evening walk on the beach was wonderful ...
And a night out at 'The Titanic Bar' on the beach, where Goanese port was about $2 per glass.

Festivities en route while cycling to Karnataka on a scorching day. What else but to have a few salty lemon sodas and dance with the local dieties ...

What do to with a free month or two in the trekking off season? This winter I did some cycle touring (with a bit of time on the beach and feasting on seafood as well) in Goa and South India with Joel, another Project Himalaya guide. It was amazing to spend time on the coast again, and the colors, tastes and smells of southern India were incredible ...
